August Birding
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
I walked the Pheasant Branch creek corridor for a few hours this morning looking for early migrant songbirds (southbound warblers). Though I didn't even find a single Common Yellowthroat, most of the other typical summer resident birds were present. Notably absent were the Carolina Wrens. They do this to me all the time. Just when I begin to worry they've abandoned the creek corridor, one will perch in the open on a nearby branch, singing its heart out. It shouldn't be much longer and the warbler storm will be underway!

apparently the paving proposal got the smack down last night. Good news?
Mike D,
Paving the trail north of Century Avenue was voted down last night. However, Middleton is still going to pave the creek corridor trail which is not being recognized as the conservancy "proper." The trail between Parmenter Street and Century Avenue is where the overwhelming majority of birders go to observe concentrations of neotropical migratory songbirds at Pheasant Branch Conservancy.
I'll write something with more detail regarding this issue in a future blog post.
Mike M.
OK I guess I'm confused. To me it looks like Parmenter St. is a bit west of the conservancy in a residential area. I've always known PBC to begin east of Pheasant Branch Rd AKA Hwy K.
I am looking at the map they have:
