The Leaf

Here's a leaf for inspiration
I picked up off the ground
Was there for the song
Of phoebe and the vireo
Green all summer long
But soon found its place
The leaf on the ground
Why should I pick it up?
Did paws ever touch it?
Was it covered with raindrops?
Under the morning sun
Held to the light
And I left the leaf
There on the ground
Where it will fade
Gently and peacefully

Mike,
Such lovely writing! You captured the very essence of nature's transition into winter....the birds leaving with their summer activities a fading memory.

Your words allowed me to experience that leaf almost as if I was there...its secrets rich with history.

Loved the photo. Simplicity at its best - your presentation of it truly artistic.

Mike, thank you very much for sharing your words and your photos. I've just finished going through your blog from the springtime to today. For various reasons, I've not been able to keep up with all the blogs I've subscribed to. After spending an extremely pleasant who-knows-and-who-cares-how-many minutes, yours is definitely one I will keep on my list.

was leafing thru this blog
poking around and thinking
no paw print from a dog
what "grub" juice has Mike been drinking

Your poem had a dignity and kind respect for a simple leaf, whose time on this planet was filled with experience and history.
Very cool.
