How did you spend your Saturday?

Purple Violet

Eastern Painted Turtle

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Today was a beautiful day to be in the field and enjoying nature. From birding at the monastery at sunrise and watching a Broad-winged Hawk soar, then Pheasant Branch, Nine Springs where a Wilson's Phalarope was spinning, finally finishing with dozens of Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers at Lake Farm Park – I've completely tired myself out from nature! How great it is. This Yellow-rumped Warbler perched so close to me that I decided to go for a close-up digiscoped portrait rather than backing away to frame it fearing I might cause it to fly.

Later on I noticed the night sky was crystal clear with a bright moon in the east - I couldn't resist. I hauled out my Celestron 8" SCT and coupled my Nikon Coolpix 4500 for a Moon shot and an attempt at Saturn:

The Moon

Saturn

"Sometimes when I earnestly look at a beautiful object or landscape, it seems as if I were on the brink of a fruition still denied - as if Vision were an appetite; even as a man would feel who, having put forth all his muscular strength in an act of prosilience, is at the very moment held back - he leaps and yet moves not from his place."

-- Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Mike, Xtremely Cool! Love the posing painted turtle. Spent the day with yardwork...yardwork...getting ponds ready for my fish...had nature all around me. My dragonfly actually appeared by the ponds. Probably work on the garden today. Loved the night sky photos too! Carol

Saturn is my most favoritest planet! I love the turtle too! He looks like he's waving. :) Unfortunately, we spent the day in the mall, but it was a little too hot for me outside, anyway. :)

Great pics, Mike! 8 members of the Discovery Center Bird Club took a field trip to the Mead Wildlife Refuge on Saturday. Great outing, lots of birds, including 2 whooping cranes that have been staying in the area!

The bird club here in Rockford went on a fieldtrip to Nachusa Grasslands on Saturday. It was the perfect birding weather! To get an entire weekend to bird at the end of April is sometimes tricky, with rain and iffy weather.
Couldn't have had a better time!

Holy mackerel. Beautiful photos! That turtle stretching his little leg is so sweet!
Your moon and Saturn photos are amazing! I wanted to shoot the moon Saurday night too, but didn't get good enough conditions. I also need get a moon filter, I think.
I spent the day tilling and planting my veggie garden and a cutting garden full of flowers. It was so great to finally get outside!
